Pass OR Fail?? We can help!
How long does it take?
Vehicles 1996 and newer take about 5-10 minutes. Vehicles 1995 and
older take about 10-15 minutes.
What are the best times to have my vehicle tested? Weekday mornings & Saturdays 8AM-1PM
What does it mean if the MIL (maintenance indicator light) is
lit? It means that there is a code detected in your cars computer system and in
order for the vehicle to pass emissions the light needs to be off. After the computer is reset,
you need to drive your vehicle for a certain number of miles to satisfy the monitors and then have it
tested again.
Do I have to pay for the retest?
You get one free retest but it must be within 60 days of the first test and
at the original test station.
What are the common causes of failure AND the costs to repair
it?
Common repair problems are O2 sensors, loose gas cap, evaporated emissions
leak, blown fuse and maintenance tune-up. The costs can range from $10 to $400 depending on the
repairs needed.
What are the consequences for not repairing the
cause?
You have 60 days to repair the vehicle and have it retested. You are
unable to reregister the vehicle unless the vehicle passes the emissions test or you receive a
special waiver. Remember after 60 days an additional $20 testing fee will be
required.
What will I receive from the emissions testing facility?
A pass or fail slip is generated by DMV through our computer system.
This slip is the documentation required by the DMV for the cars emissions
requirement.
How do I know when to have my vehicle tested?
DMV sends a letter in the mail with the vehicle listed and a date by which
to have the vehicle tested.
What do I need to bring?
You need to bring the letter from the DMV or your vehicle
registration.
Do I need an appointment?
No, come in Monday-Friday between 8AM-5PM or Saturdays
8AM-1PM.
How much does it cost?
$20 payable by cash, check or debit card. If you are late, the late
fee is collected directly by DMV, not the test station.
Do you still get a sticker?
No, there are no longer any stickers, only a letter when you
are due for testing.
